The 2023 vintage is shaping up to be one of the most memorable in the history of Uruguayan winemaking. Despite facing one of the most severe droughts in recent memory, the wines from this harvest stand out for their remarkable concentration and harmony in key aspects such as acidity, sugar, aroma, and polyphenolic balance. This achievement is largely attributed to the winery’s meticulous preparation, which included carefully planned irrigation strategies in anticipation of the adverse climatic conditions already evident during the two preceding springs.
The 2023 harvest proved exceptional, with young wines ranking among the finest we have tasted in years. Meanwhile, the barrel-aged wines show immense promise, hinting at thrilling potential for development in the decades to come.
Santiago Deicas notes that dry years often favor the vines, enhancing grape health and concentration. This combination of factors results in smaller yields but wines of extraordinary quality—solidifying the 2023 vintage as a true milestone in Uruguayan viticulture.
