Harvest Report

2017

Overall, the white wines proved exceptionally elegant and delicate, with a rounded, creamy, and softly sweet palate. The reds, while slightly less concentrated than in the previous two vintages, display abundant fruit, supple tannins, and excellent overall balance.

Autumn 2016 concluded with heavy rainfall, which subsided at the onset of winter, giving way to a cold and dry climate that lasted for several months. Toward the end of the season, rains returned—56% above average for that period. With ample water reserves in the soil, the vineyard developed well without irrigation, even though spring was relatively dry, with 20% less rainfall than usual. A late frost in September affected a small portion of low-lying vines but caused minimal impact.

In January, as ripening began for most varieties, rainfall was 24% above average, concentrated in a few mid-month events. February and March brought a sharp change, with 12% and 33% less rain than the twenty-year average, respectively, and temperatures remained normal with no extreme events. Harvest took place between February 2 and March 27, within the usual timeframe.

The yield was 16% higher than in 2016, marking the second-largest harvest in our history after the record year of 2012. Overall, the white wines proved elegant and refined, with rounded, creamy, and gently sweet palates, while the reds showed slightly less concentration than the previous two vintages but abundant fruit, supple tannins, and excellent balance.
